Definitely good advice on the water. Lowering protein and adding carbs
(generally fiber is going to come from carbs) should actually help strength
because of the additional glycogen. Most research shows about .8 grams of
protein per lb of body weight is the max that can be used for anabolism.
But I think the real question is how much fiber is he getting currently and
how many carbs. He may just need his carb sources to be higher fiber
choices. Personally I think most people eat too much protein so there is
usually room to drop it a bit. My opinion anyway!
When I ate a traditionally ‘clean’ diet I always had problems with
constipation or diarrhea – the sweet spot of protein and fiber always
seemed to be a moving target. A big reason I keep eating a keto diet are
the amazingly healthy and regular bowel movements that are typically ‘one
wipe wonders’ – and I don’t even worry about fiber intake anymore, as it is
not necessary to even think about it when in a state of nutritional
ketosis. Fiber is merely broken down by fecal bacteria in the large
intestine into ketones, and those ketones are taken up for nourishment by
the walls of the large intestine – in a state of nutritional ketosis your
liver is producing ketones like gangbusters and they permeate nearly every
tissue of the body, including your bowel.
TL;DR – eating lots of fat lubes up your butthole
