This condition has more to do with the consistency or the stool than the frequency. It is common for babies to go several days without a bowel movement, but some indicators may help you determine if a blocked system is to blame. Constipation causes firm, compact stool, much like pebbles. There may be a bit of blood in your baby's diaper--hard poop can tear the rectal wall. Switching from formula to solid foods can also cause infant constipation. If her belly is bloated, possibly even tender, it may be a sign of backed-up intestines.
