A colonoscope is the special tool used to perform a colonoscopy. It is a thin, flexible, tubular ‘telescope’ with a light and video camera that your doctor carefully guides through your colon in order to see and determine the health of your colon. Watch this animation to learn about the features of the colonoscope, how the colonoscopy procedure is performed and how polyps are removed, and the follow-up care you and your doctor should talk about after your procedure.

To anyone possibly reading this who’s getting a colonoscopy soon and is
extremely nervous, let me just tell you it is such a breeze. And this is
coming from a hypochondriac and anxiety-ridden person. I just had an
endoscopy and a colonoscopy today, so my experience is very recent. I was
so insanely scared, I was supposed to get one 2 weeks earlier but cancelled
out of fear. They are thinking I might have Crohn’s Disease so this is why
I was getting it done. But, today I *had* to get it done. I couldn’t wait
any longer, the doctors were extremely concerned. So first, I went to the
hospital (a nervous wreck of course. I’m 15 by the way) and just waited in
the waiting room. Then after a while they took me in to my room and went
over everything with me. Then they stuck in my IV, but with the numbing
shot or whatever it’s called, it was virtually painless. So then I just
waited there with my mom, watching TV. The anesthesiologist comes and talks
to me, so does the gynecologist. I think that’s what he was. And they were
all sooo nice. Just nice and made me feel calm and good, but if you tend to
be afraid and have anxiety I suggest asking for relaxation drugs
beforehand. I received Versed. They’ll give it to you right before the
procedure starts, it works very quickly. I felt relaxed, groggy, tired. Not
afraid anymore. The part I was most scared about was the anesthesia. But it
was so easy! They gave me propofol. I don’t even remember falling asleep, I
just remember him saying something like “let’s get started” and I blacked
out. Woke up, alert, but very slow. My actions and thoughts were really
slow but I could remember everything said and done. Then I got an orange
Gatorade and went home after 30 minutes. I was so shocked at how easy the
procedures were (I got an endoscopy as well). I couldn’t believe how afraid
I was. The worst part about it all honestly, is the fear beforehand and the
slight stomach ache and cramps afterwards. But they go away. So don’t be
worried. Well, it’s okay to be worried but you’ll realize how easy it was
and you’ll come out braver than you were before, trust me I went through
it. ❤️

Doc says:

First time I had one done I woke up giggling like a kid. The nurse was
pushing on my abdomen and I was farting. Of course they do that to push the
air out that is blow into your rectum to open it up more.

Ben Tv Howman says:

Here in Australia when I had 9ne, the sedition ment I didn’t remember the
procedure at all. The nurse simply woke and there was no discomfort at all
and was able to go straight back into my regular diet. The cleaning out the
night before is the worst part and not that bad. Just be near a toilet for
that

This video is simple but perfect and clear. 👍👍👍

Clint Eastwood says:

Had this procedure carried out recently & I also had a camera down my
throat to check for ulcer’s. TBH, I was nervous & worried beforehand. But I
cannot stress enough it’s a doddle & I never felt a thing. Only a small bit
of pressure in my tummy & that’s because of the air that’s pumped into your
colon. Even if they find polyps they are quite tiny & may look big on
screen to you, but remember there magnified & their no feeling if their
removed by the Doctor. So guys there’s no need to worry, just relax
yourself & totally put yourself at ease while it being done. When it’s all
over you’ll be served with refreshments & given time to settle before going
home. Best of luck to you all guys!

Dominique says:

I have gotten 5 done so far and it’s not scary at all. I’m 14 years old and
I have sever chrohns disease. Well rn I’m back in the hospital (3 weeks)
and they don’t know if I have chrohns or colitis. But I had chrohns for a
year and 8 months. It’s been tough but this procedure is nothing I promise.
The doctors are nice and everyone is there to calm you down and make you
feel less scared. I get a slushee every time after I wake up .

Ok I’m not going to lie, the preparation sucks. You can’t eat for two days
and you drink a whole bunch bowl in 3 hours. I also drink it with Gatorade
(it’s what they suggest) and now I hate Gatorade but the procedure it’s
self does not hurt and I never feel any cramps or pain after the procedure.

NoName says:

There are some people who do not respond very well to the sedation. I had
colonoscopy with sedation and close to the end of the procedure, I felt a
serious pain in the lower back. My spontaneous reaction without thinking
was to grab back and pull the colonoscope out of my rectum. I was sedated,
but I felt the pain. As the doctor told me after removing a polyp, he had
to hold the wall of the intestine with a pair of tweezers, sometimes
causing pain. ,

brad thomas says:

It would probably be a lot less terrifying if they didn’t design the scope
to look like a screaming robotic anus caterpillar that barfs tools at your
polyps.

M. Claud Peridottan says:

Damn I never thought butt cameras were so high-tech

MJ Sanchez says:
