I remember the first time I heard this, it was 1990, and it was on the
Rhino compilation just issued that year. At first, I didn’t know what to
tink of it, but ended up laughing hysterically by the time the song ended.
And as far as I know, it’s the only recorded ode to severe irregularity,
and Jay’s ruminating lyrics are spot-on. Having reached middle age myself,
I truly do relate to what he’s saying here! Hail to the Pavarotti of the
Blues!
