Today's question comes to us from email from Ludmila.
Hi melissa i have another question i always have constipation i think its part of my stress and it hurts my stomach and chest do you think that its not enough the yoga and do you think this is normal?
Dear Ludmila
This is a great question. So of course I am a Ph.D., not a medical doctor and so it is always important to go to your medical doctor to get things like this checked out.
Definitely stress is part of holding on. Holding on mentally and emotionally translates to holding on physically which can result in constipation. I spoke about it in our most recent episode of Namaste Yoga http://www.melissawest.com/namaste-yoga-192/
One of the best yoga poses for constipation is apanasana, knee to chest pose.
Yoga is a great way to deal with constipation. I have a fabulous video for digestion that focuses on (among other things) elimination through your colon.

The most recent video from Namaste Yoga had a whole kriya in it that focused on elimination too.

Here is a previous blog post where I go over the classic yoga pose for elimination and recommend yoga classes for the large intestine/colon

Staying well hydrated is extremely important for proper elimination as well. I did a whole video blog post on this recently where I go over how much water you should be taking in during your day.

I hope this helps. If you have any other tips for dealing with constipation, I would love to hear them. Please leave them in the comments below.
